Her Mehendi Look Was Pure Joy

Dek: Soumya Muppa’s mehendi look wasn’t planned, but it was love at first sight

Some wedding decisions are carefully plotted, others happen in a flash — and Soumya Muppa’s mehendi lehenga was a bit of both.

                                   

She knew from the start that she wanted an Aisha Rao piece for one of her wedding looks. “I first discovered the brand a few years ago and found it so fresh, so new,” she says. “The bold colours, the appliqué work — it felt like such a breath of fresh air from the conventional lehenga, yet still deeply rooted in tradition.”

When the time came to shop, she explored several designers and even had a mehendi outfit finalised. But the story shifted the moment she walked into Aisha Rao’s Hyderabad store.

“I went up to the first floor and saw this lehenga on the rack, right by the trial room. That perfect vibrant shade of green with all the glam — that was it. It sparked such joy in me, and when I tried it on, I just glowed.”   

       

The lehenga was ready-to-wear, while her husband’s was crafted custom to match. “The staff were incredibly helpful,” Saumya shares. “They went to great lengths to make sure both our fits were perfect, which made the entire experience so seamless.”

She also admired the label’s philosophy of upcycling leftover fabrics into intricate appliqué motifs. “It’s such a beautiful idea, creating art out of what might otherwise be wasted,” she reflects. “But when it came to my wedding, I wouldn’t base my choice on sustainability alone. I chose Aisha Rao because it made me feel radiant — and on your big day, that’s everything.”

In the end, the lehenga she hadn’t planned on became the one that defined her mehendi. Proof that sometimes, the most perfect moments are the ones you don’t see coming.
